Get your cameras recording.

Start with the checks below. They solve most RTSP, ONVIF, recording, and playback issues without changing advanced settings.

1. Confirm the camera stream

Verify that your camera exposes RTSP, RTSPS, HLS, or ONVIF on the local network. Use the camera’s own settings to enable the protocol and create a dedicated viewer account when possible.

2. Keep devices on the same network

For discovery and initial setup, connect the Apple device and camera to the same LAN or VLAN. VPNs, guest Wi-Fi isolation, and firewall rules can block discovery even when the camera is online.

3. Test before recording

Add the camera, test live video, then enable recording. For 24/7 recording, choose the sub-stream when available and reserve the main stream for event clips.

4. Check storage

Make sure the selected storage location remains connected and has enough free space. External drives and network locations should be mounted before recording begins.

5. Export diagnostics

If the issue continues, export a diagnostic report from OmniNVR settings and include the camera brand, model, protocol, and the exact step that fails.
